Experience the landscape in an entirely new way by creating watercolor paints from the earth itself. In this one-of-a-kind workshop, you'll discover how local minerals and natural materials can be transformed into beautiful handmade watercolor paints before using them to create your own Hudson Valley landscape painting.
Artist and pigment researcher Laura Leigh guides participants through the fascinating process of grinding minerals, mixing natural binders, and preparing watercolor paints by hand. Along the way, you'll learn about the geology, history, and remarkable colors hidden within the local landscape.
Once your paints are complete, you'll use them to paint a simple landscape inspired by the rivers, mountains, forests, and farmland that make the Hudson Valley so unique. Through relaxed, step-by-step instruction, you'll explore watercolor techniques while creating a meaningful connection between the land beneath your feet and the artwork you take home. Designed for beginners and experienced artists alike,
Nature's Palette blends art, science, history, and mindfulness into an unforgettable creative experience. Whether you're a local resident or visiting the Hudson Valley, you'll leave with a deeper appreciation for the region—and a painting made with colors born from its own earth.
