Looking to meet new people, try something creative, and spend an afternoon making instead of scrolling? Meet & Make is our monthly social crafting event designed to bring people together through the joy of creativity.
Overview
Each Meet & Make begins with a fun, lighthearted icebreaker to help everyone get to know one another before we dive into that month's featured creative activity. After a brief introduction and demonstration, the rest of the time is yours to create, connect, and explore. Craft at your own pace, enjoy light snacks, and chat with fellow makers while your instructor is available throughout the event to answer questions, offer tips, and provide guidance along the way.
This month, we're excited to welcome local artist Kelly M. La Rosa, who, like some of you, is also new to the Beacon area. Kelly will introduce you to the creative world of junk journaling, where everyday materials become one-of-a-kind works of art. She'll also share the personal benefits she's found through developing a regular journaling practice and how it can become a meaningful way to slow down, reflect, and express yourself.
Using packaging, labels, paper scraps, rubber stamps, and other found materials, you'll learn how to transform the ordinary into something meaningful. Make your first junk journal or bring one you've already started to continue building and embellishing its pages. This workshop is perfect for beginners, non-artists, and anyone looking for a fun, low-pressure way to explore creativity, build community, and give everyday materials a second life.
What You'll Learn
- What junk journaling is (and isn't)
- Where and how to source and collect materials
- How to create your first junk journal
- Ways to decorate and personalize your journal
- Ideas for continuing your creative practice after the workshop
By the end of the afternoon, you'll leave with the start of your own junk journal, a new creative experience, and maybe even a few new friends.
Can't make this one? Join us for the next Meet & Make in November, where we'll learn how to crochet a simple scarf.
