Artist and somatic drawing practitioner Elizabeth Castagna brings her body-led approach to That Creative Space in Beacon, NY for a participatory workshop where drawing emerges from the felt sense of the body. Her practice invites full presence, allowing internal sensations, emotions, memories, and subtle energies to guide movement and mark-making. Through this process, participants explore the rich dialogue between inner experience and external expression.
What You’ll Learn
The workshop begins with a guided somatic practice designed to help you shift into the body and attune to internal movement. From this embodied awareness, you’ll learn to draw through connection to sensation, the language of the body, and discover how physical, emotional, and energetic cues can shape your creative expression.
What You’ll Make
Rooted in your own lived experience, you’ll create drawings that arise from embodied movement, sensation, and intuitive response. These marks become traces of presence, internal rhythm, and personal narrative.
What to wear
Comfortable clothes that are OK they get messy.
What You’ll Take Home
You’ll leave with a meaningful body-led drawing experience
and atherial drawing. Along with ideas for how to continue this somatic drawing practice on your own—whether as a creative ritul,
way to start or shift a painting, a grounding tool, or an ongoing way of connecting inner experience with outward expression.n.

About the Teaching Artist
Elizabeth is a visual and movement-based artist whose practice is deeply rooted in her exploration of somatics. Originally from The Bronx, NY, she spent most of her life living and painting in NYC before relocating to Beacon, NY. Her work has been exhibited both locally in NYC, the Hudson Valley, and internationally. In 2021, she expanded her movement drawing process beyond her studio, bringing it into abandoned and temporary spaces. Elizabeth’s painting process is an embodied one, integrating her felt sense, emotions, and life experiences, as tools to paint through. That felt sense would come
through to gesture, and be made visible through the paint, the chalk or charcoal. She has performed her movement drawing in arts festivals and led workshops in cultural spaces. For the past 20 years Elizabeth has also been an Alexander Technique teacher and a practitioner of Craniosacral Therapy and Reiki. Her art and body awareness practices run in parallel, inspiring and informing one another. Photo Credit: Flynn Larsen
