Overview
This welcoming workshop is perfect for all skill levels and is taught by local artist and educator Michael Hollick. With more than eight years of teaching experience, Michael will guide you through the fundamentals of figure drawing, including proportion, form, value, and observation. Working from a live model, you'll explore a variety of drawing materials including pencil, charcoal, and pastels while building confidence in your drawing skills.
Our model, Rachel, is a local ceramic artist and educator who co-runs Silica Studios in Beacon. An experienced figure model, Rachel will pose in a variety of creative costumes and outfits, offering students the opportunity to capture everything from expressive drapery and interesting textures to character and gesture. Whether you're trying figure drawing for the first time or looking for a fresh take on a traditional practice, Costume Figure Drawing offers a relaxed, welcoming environment to learn. The costumes add an extra layer of creativity and storytelling, making the experience approachable for beginners while still providing an engaging challenge for more experienced artists.
By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a stronger understanding of figure drawing fundamentals, several finished studies, and new ways to observe and interpret the human form.
This workshop is the first in what we hope will become a regular monthly figure drawing series. If you've been looking for an ongoing opportunity to practice drawing from a live model in a welcoming environment, we'd love for you to join us.
Materials will be provided but please bring any drawing materials you have or prefer to work with.
