Overview
Join us at That Creative Space as Rebecca Bratt introduces the craft of hand broom making using traditional broomcorn. In this hands-on class, you’ll create three small kitchen scrubbers and a turkey tail hand broom while learning to use a foot-brake to maintain tension and wind broomcorn tightly and beautifully. Along the way, we’ll explore the materials, the history, and the cultural roots of this practical craft. It’s a tactile, rhythmic process — both functional and deeply satisfying. No prior experience needed. Just bring your curiosity.

About the Teaching Artist
Rebecca Bratt joins us from Carmel, New York. With a master’s degree in math and education and a deep love of the natural world, she creates beautiful, functional objects from foraged and often invasive materials. Drawn to the slow, meditative process of wild basketry, Rebecca works from forest to finished form — gathering, drying, preparing, and transforming raw materials into useful vessels. For her, it’s a kind of everyday alchemy: something ordinary becoming something entirely new, shaped by hand
